Recommended Laboratory Tests
The consultation process begins with three very detailed questionnaires, which often enable us to identify the causes of a patient’s symptoms. In more complex cases, certain laboratory tests are recommended. Several of these have only been introduced in the UK very recently and are not yet available on the NHS.
The Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis (CDSA test) is an invaluable test for helping people with IBS, Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Please look at www.ibs-solutions.co.uk for further information.
We also recommend a hydrogen breath test to help in the diagnosis of SIBO. This test can be done at home or at our clinic. This test is useful for patients who have bloating, burping and diarrhea and malabsorption.
Tests for Candida and for lactose intolerance can also be arranged, as can the Adrenal Stress Index, which measures levels of cortisol and DHEA in order to examine how much stress an individual is under throughout the day. It provides a wonderfully clear explanation of why someone has a lack of energy or cannot get a good night's sleep.
Testing essential fatty acid status is important for children with dyslexia or ADHD and mineral analysis often reveals reasons for hyperactivity in children or infertility in adults.
All of these tests are very exciting. They give an up-to-date nutritional consultant a window on what is going on inside the body in a way which has never previously been available. The results can be dramatic.
